Wrong audience. Weak pipeline

Before spending more on advertising, it is worth knowing what happens to the leads you already pay for. In most businesses the expensive leak is not the ad account. It is everything that happens after the click.

Which of these is true about your marketing?

These are the patterns we see when advertising is running ahead of the system behind it. Tick what applies and we will describe what is usually causing it.

What you are describing

0 of 8 selected

Select a symptom above and the pattern underneath it appears here. Most businesses recognise three or four, and they usually share one root cause.

What it costs

What you are paying for leads nobody works.

This one is uncomfortable and usually worth doing. Put in your own figures to see what the handling gap costs you in advertising spend each year.

$6,000

Everything you pay the platforms, across all channels.

This assumes an unworked lead is wasted spend, which is roughly but not exactly true. Some would never have bought. The point is that fixing the follow-up usually costs less than the amount above, and you do not have to increase the budget to see a different result.

How we find it

We connect the system before we increase the spend.

Advertising into a funnel that leaks is the fastest way to lose money with a clear conscience, because the reporting will look busy. We work in this order for that reason.

  1. 01

Follow the money through to a customer

We check whether you can trace a single closed deal back to the campaign that produced it. Usually the chain breaks somewhere, and finding where tells us what to fix before any creative work starts.

    You get:
    an attribution audit
    Typical:
    1 week
    Who is involved:
    marketing and sales
  2. 02

    Fix measurement and the handover

Tracking, lead capture and CRM routing get connected so a lead arrives with its source attached and reaches an owner automatically. Without this, nothing we do later can be judged honestly.

    You get:
    working tracking and routing
    Typical:
    1 to 2 weeks
    Who is involved:
whoever owns your website and CRM
  3. 03

Match the page to the promise

Each campaign gets a landing experience that continues the specific message in the ad, with a form that asks for the minimum needed to have a conversation.

    You get:
    campaign landing pages
    Typical:
    2 weeks
    Who is involved:
you, for the offer and the proof
  4. 04

    Run, measure against revenue, adjust

Campaigns go live with the feedback loop closed, so decisions are made on closed deals rather than cost per lead. We report on what we changed and why.

    You get:
    live campaigns and honest reporting
    Typical:
    ongoing
    Who is involved:
    a monthly review with you

What we do

What we can genuinely influence, and what we will not promise.

Paid growth attracts confident claims. Here is the line we hold, including the parts of your result that advertising cannot reach.

Where we can move the number

Things inside the system we are building and running.

  • Whether a lead is captured with its source attached
  • How quickly an enquiry reaches a named owner
  • Whether the landing page matches what the ad promised
  • How much friction sits between interest and a conversation
  • Whether follow-up continues past the second attempt
  • Whether your reporting connects spend to closed revenue

What we will not promise

Either outside our control, or dishonest to guarantee.

  • A specific cost per lead before we have seen your data
  • Results that do not depend on your team answering the phone
  • Rankings or reach on platforms that change their own rules
  • That advertising will fix an offer the market is not responding to
  • Immediate results while tracking is still being rebuilt
  • Volume at a price point your margin cannot support

Tools we use

The platforms, and what each one is actually for.

Channel choice follows the problem. We would rather run one channel properly connected to your CRM than four that nobody can measure.

Where the demand is bought

Intent-led search and audience-led social do different jobs. Which you need depends on whether people are already looking for what you sell.

  • Google Ads
  • Meta Ads
  • Search and performance campaigns
  • Retargeting

Where the visitor lands

A page built for one campaign, with one message and one action, rather than a homepage asked to do everything.

  • Campaign landing pages
  • Form and capture design
  • Call tracking
  • Booking links

How it gets measured

Measurement is the part most accounts get wrong, and everything downstream depends on it being right.

  • GA4
  • Google Tag Manager
  • Meta Pixel and Conversions API
  • Server-side tracking

Where leads go next

The handover into your CRM is where most advertising budget quietly disappears.

  • CRM routing
  • Automated follow-up
  • Lead scoring
  • Revenue reporting

On scope and readiness. Paid growth is part of our expanding delivery roadmap, and we are straightforward about that. During discovery we confirm which channels we can deliver properly for your situation before committing to a scope. We would rather do one channel well than claim all of them.

What changes

From click to conversation, before and after.

The same ad spend, the same click. What changes is whether the system behind the ad is ready to receive it.

  1. 01Someone clicks the adpaid
  2. 02Lands on a general page about the companymismatch
  3. 03Fills a nine field form, or leavesfriction
  4. 04Submission emails a shared inboxgap
  5. 05Someone copies it into the CRM latermanual
  6. 06Source is lost along the wayblind
  7. 07Followed up once, if at allgap

The spend is measurable but the outcome is not. You can see cost per lead and nothing beyond it, so the account optimises towards cheap leads rather than customers.

Questions to ask

Six questions worth asking any marketing partner.

These tend to reveal very quickly whether a partner thinks in terms of your revenue or their deliverables.

  1. 01

How will we know if this worked, in revenue?

If the answer involves impressions, reach or cost per lead alone, you will not be able to tell whether the money worked.

Our answer: We connect closed revenue back to campaigns in phase two, specifically so this question has a real answer later.

  2. 02

What will you fix before you spend anything?

A partner who starts spending in week one is either very confident about your existing setup or has not looked at it.

Our answer: Tracking and the lead handover come first. Spending into a broken chain produces data nobody can trust.

  3. 03

Who owns the ad accounts and the data?

If the agency owns the account, your campaign history and audiences leave when the relationship does.

Our answer: You own every account. We work inside yours and you keep full admin access throughout.

  4. 04

What do you need from my team for this to work?

Advertising depends on your side answering quickly. A partner who does not raise this has not thought about your result.

Our answer: We will tell you the response time the system assumes, because the campaign cannot outperform your follow-up.

  5. 05

What is your fee based on?

Percentage of spend rewards spending more. Flat fees reward efficiency. Neither is wrong, but you should know which incentive you are buying.

Our answer: We agree a scope and a fee that does not increase simply because the budget does.

  6. 06

What would make you recommend we pause?

Any partner who cannot imagine advising you to stop spending has an incentive problem.

Our answer: If tracking is broken, follow-up is not resourced, or the margin does not support the lead cost, we will say so before taking the work.

This starts with the leads you already have.

Before any new spend, we look at what happened to the last few months of enquiries. That review frequently finds more revenue than a larger budget would have, and it costs considerably less to act on.

  1. 1A conversation about how leads reach you and what happens next.
  2. 2We check whether a closed deal can be traced back to a campaign.
  3. 3You get the attribution audit, whether or not we run campaigns.
  4. 4If the system is ready, we scope the channels we can deliver well.

What happens to a lead after it arrives?
